Letter From Voice Of The Blind

VOICE OF THE BLIND

13th August 2012 BY HAND

The President,
Malaysian Association for the Blind,
Jalan Tebing,
Brickfields,
Kuala Lumpur.

Dear Sir,

LETTER OF DEMAND

It has come to the knowledge of many blind people that the management of MAB has been deteriorated to a very low level. Below are some of our grievances

1. We are aware that MAB has made the decision to construct a fountain, in which, its purpose known only to the management. However, when the topic of the fountain was floated over cyber space, every single blind person was against the idea. There seems to be no purpose of spending such a huge amount of funds to construct a fountain by taking away 6 car parks in Wisma MAB. As such we would like to demand that the on going construction works BE HALTED WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT. We call upon the council to listen to the opinion of the blind, after all money has been collected in the name of the blind. We would also like to take this opportunity to highlight other relevant issues,

1. The MAB excessive device counter in the library – It has deteriorated to the level where many of the blind would rather go to a shop operated by a private individual.

2.The method of awarding contracts – We have reason to believe that the Executive Director Dato’ Ganesin Suppayah is awarding contracts to his cronies. The contracts includes the Fibre Optic Cabling worth almost RM 1Mil, The Car Parking Tender for Lot 193, construction of the Water Fountain and more. We have all EVIDENCE to prove his cronism.

3. Besides maintaining the Executive Director with a Sum of RM 12,000, we are also maintaining his wife with a sum of RM 6,000 (estimated). Can the board justify is there a necessity to employ husband and wife under one organization. Is the board aware that the Executive Director only comes to the office less then 2 hours a day approximately?

4. The leasing of Wisma Suppayah for the purpose of training sighted people. - Why is MAB involved in renting the premises belonging to the Executive Director for the purpose of training the sighted people? The blind people are aware, that the Tun Hussein Onn Eye Hospital is paying the rent, while the portion of upper floors is being charged to the accounts of MAB through Tun Hussein Onn Eye Hospital.

Please take note that these are only some of the grievances, Kindly note, that all money collected is in the name of the blind, therefore, it should be used to improve the services for the blind.

Finally, we ARE DEMANDING THE ONGOING CONSTRUCTION OF THE FOUNTAIN TO BE HALTED IMMEDIATELY AND DATO’ GANESIN SUPPAYAH TO STEP DOWN AS AN EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, FAILLING WHICH WE WILL GATHER ON 1st SEPTEMBER 2012 ALONG WITH THE PRESS.

There is still a 2 weeks period before the 43rd Annual General Meeting. And if nothing is done, THE BLIND WILL SWAMP INTO MAB TO VOICE OUT OUR DISSATISFACTION TO THE PRESS.

We are writing on behalf of the blind.

VOICE OF THE BLIND

c.c. Council Members.
